Málaga on Spain's Costa del Sol is a Western Mediterranean port growing as both a call and a homeport. Ships dock at the Muelle de Levante within walking distance of the 11th-century Alcazaba fortress, the Picasso Museum (he was born here), and the Málaga Cathedral. Excursions run to Granada's Alhambra (2 hours inland) or Ronda's dramatic gorge. AGP airport is 15 minutes away — convenient for fly-cruise connections.

• Málaga's history spans about 2,800 years — it was founded around 770 BC by Phoenicians from Tyre under the name 'Malaka', making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Western Europe.
